Chic 1950s Vintage Pink and Grey Gabardine Suit with 2 Skirts Sz M

They used to make these 3 piece sets with a skirt choice. Love the idea. You could have the mare dressy matching suit, or a snappier contrast one. And this set is pink and grey - pretty perfect. The unlined bolero jacket is the pink and grey weave with a fine red line. The collar is the solid pink rayon gab, while the buttons and pocket flaps incorporate both.  The solid skirt is a bit more flared then the woven one. Both have a center front seam, darts and side metal zipper to close.

Label: Rousso Sportswear New York

Size: Jacket: Bust: 40", Shoulders: 15.5", Sleeves: 19", CB Neck to Hem: 16". Skirt: Pink: Waist: 27", Hips: 40" , Waist to Hem: 29" , Hem circumference: 45" Skirt: Woven: Waist: 27", Hips: 40", Waist to Hem: 29" , Hem circumference: 43"

Condition - Excellent, no stains or holes. The previous owner was a rental shop that added its initial to the label, and its name on the zipper tape. Doesn’t show from the outside in any way.

1950s Midnight Blue Wool Suit by Paul Parnes

This 1950s era suit from Paul Parnes has such great details. First, it has a waist length  jacket  and is a light weight wool. The cording is used to define the lines - and not just the front, collar and cuffs, but the bound buttonholes and side plackets of the skirt waist as well. My thought is that with the shirt jacket and button plackets on the side o f the skirt, this is a younger woman’s suit. The jacket has princess seams and set in sleeves with split cuffs. The skirt functionally buttons on both sides and there is no zipper.

Label: Paul Parnes

Size:  Jacket: Bust: 36" , Waist: 26" , Shoulders: 15", Sleeves: 20",
CB Neck to Hem: 17".
Skirt: Waist: 25" , Hips: 36", Waist to Hem: 27.5" , Hem circumference: 42"

Condition: Excellent but for a 1/8” rewoven place on the jacket. Very hard to see, we show it in a photo.  No stains or wear.

Feminine Vintage 1950s Sybil Connolly Grey Wool Suit  M/L

This feminine take on a tailored suit carries the label of renowned Irish designer Sybil Connolly. The  jacket has a flattering princess seam front , darted back and modified Ύ length  kimono sleeves. The stand away neck line has a Peter Pan style collar, while the front closes with covered buttons and bound buttonholes. The pleated skirt has a dropped yoke for a smooth fit over the hips under the jacket, then is a series of  24 (!)seamed panels, with the seams falling at the pleat returns. So it’s always pleated and always hangs in the proper folds. It’s very well cut. Both pieces are labeled.

Label: Sybil Connolly Dublin

Size:  Jacket: Bust: 40”, Waist: 34" , Shoulders: 18"  Sleeves: 17.5" , CB Neck to Waist: 16.5”, to Hem 22”.
Skirt: Waist: 29" , Hips: full" , Waist to Hem: 26" , Hem circumference: 110”

Condition: Excellent. No spots, stains or holes. The technique of sewing the hem is a bit odd, leaving raw edges. Sometimes with this type of skirt, the hem is turned up, then the pleat returns stitched vertically. In this skirt, that would have been too bulky. So the skirt seam were sewn and serged, then the hem was folded up and the last 3” of skirt stitched. You can see the matching notches still in the raw seams.  The panels are so narrow there was no need to do a hemstitch as the hem is caught up in the vertical seams every 5 inches.

Price:  $375

Feminine 1950s Navy Blue Wool Davidow Fitted Suit

This is one of the earlier Davidow suits we have offered. Today, we usually see the straighter 1960s suits. This is a beautifully made ( but Davidows always were) suit in a deep navy blue wool. The flared skirt is pleated all around in graduated box pleats. Lovely. I must say, my mother has a very similar suit from 1953-4, so I think we can say mid 1950s on the date. The fitted jacket has small shoulder pads, 3/4 sleeves with cuffs, a spiffy shaped hem, and bound button holes. The jacket is fully lined in navy crepe, while the skirt is partially lined with a side metal zipper. Not only is this a Davidow, but it carries the Blum's Vogue store label, a very pricey ladies shop on Chicago's "Magnificent Mile".

Labels: Davidow and Blum's Vogue Chicago

Size:  Jacket: Bust: 38" Waist: 29", Shoulders: 15", Sleeves: 29", CB Neck to Hem: 16 1/2". CB Neck to Hem : 19"
Skirt: Waist: 27", Hips: Full, Waist to Hem: 28", Hem Sweep: 120"

Condition: Excellent. No spots, no holes, no stains. Very Fresh and ready to wear.
