Wonderful 1920s Purple Intarsia Knit 3 Piece Dress Set  SZ M

This set is not without its flaws, but still - a 1920s intact three 3 piece rayon knit set in purple(!) is a rare find. I did a burn test, and I believe the fiber is a very smooth rayon. There may be some silk involved as well. There is a long, skinny sleeved cardigan sweater  with a bakelite buttons front and hip pockets. Then, a V neck, sleeveless knit top with 2 tone intarsia pattern in lavender and dark beige. The last is a matching ribbed knit skirt set on a cream slip top with ribbon straps. The slip and skirt are very straight with no bust or waist shaping.

Label: none

Size: Taken unstretched.  Cardigan: Bust: 38" , Low Waist: 34" , Shoulders: 15", Sleeves: 25" , CB Neck to Hem: 29".
Top: Bust: 35”, Hips: 36”, Shoulders: 15”,CB Neck to Hem: 26”
Skirt: Bust: 36”, Waist: 34" , Hips: 38", Shoulder to Waist: 16.5”,
Waist to Hem: 28", Hem circumference: 48".

Condition - The set is sturdy and wearable. There are spots. The cardigans has two areas that read dark blue - one on the left front body and one on the left back elbow. These are shown. The top has a few small brownish spots. The skirt has a stained area right at the CF hem, this is about 5” high, plus there are three spots on the center back skirt seat as shown. One of these has a dark center, and there are reddish halos. All that said, none of this shows much in standard interior lighting. In bright daylight at a window? Yes. The photos were taken with two 500 watt bulbs and the spots are not distracting. The skirt has to be re-stitched together at the side seams, and as it was originally serged together, we had it re-serged there as well.

1950s Pink Lace and Taffeta Vintage Circle Skirt Party Dress Sz S

This  young and pretty spring party or cocktail dress is very soft in pink and white, with a soft white lace over a pink taffeta. The bodice is fitted, with the nylon drape front and tails at the back. The drape is caught with a rhinestone pin at center front. The skirt is a circle, with a horsehair braid to stiffen the hem. The drape falls in tails, which also look nice tied up in a knot or bow. We shoe it both ways. Center back metal zipper to close.

Label: none

Condition - Dry-cleaned. No spots or stains. One mend in the lace - we show a close-up. The taffeta skirt lining has an ombre effect. I don’t know if this was intentional or not. The skirt hem has hung out a bit as to be expected with a circular cut.  One of the tails has  breaks in it - when tied in a bow, these are hidden. They do generally fall into the folds, but can be seen of course in movement.

Mod 1960s Vintage Cream Wool Dress by Patullo-Jo Copeland

This late 1960s, early 1970s dress is by the under rated American designer Jo Copeland. It shows the Mod 60s influences as interpreted by a mainstream designer. The deceptively simple front has a curved set-in placket with covered buttons and bound buttonholes. The princess seams drop to hip level, then square off to form a partial yoke line. Topstitching emphasizes the seaming. The front skirt has moderate flare while the long bishop sleeves finish in a button cuff. This dress is beautifully made, with a hidden zip, white silk lining and a lot of dressmaker touches.

Labels: Patullo-Jo Copeland & 1963 - 1974 ILGWU label

1980s Pink and White Celestial by Zandra Rhodes

Miss Zandra did wonderful, whimsical prints. This one is printed in  pink and white on white chiffon, with lightning bolts, crescent moons, stars, clouds and the sun. The design was printed to the shape of the dress. The silhouette has the dropped waist of the 1980s, with a gathered chiffon flounce stiffened with a soft net, Ύ sleeves and shoulder emphasis  by virtue of small ruffles rather than shoulder pads. Edges are enhanced with small pearls, and the front has star sequins, pearls and white opalescent bugle beads. The small front yoke is white with clouds.  Center back nylon coil zipper to close.

Brilliant 1980s Red Wool Dress By Galanos

We just acquired this Galanos dress and we couldn’t be happier. We haven’t had an example of this master designer’s work in some time. This day dress is a brilliant red wool crepe from the 1980s with curved raglan shoulder seams, channel stitched collar detail, bound buttonholes and large gold tone buttons. The shoulders are padded . We show this with a gold chain belt, which we can include if desired. It would look great with a wide belt and boots for winter wear. Like all Galanos dresses, it is beautifully constructed, with a silk chiffon interlining and chiffon bound seam edges. Side pockets, too.

Labels: Galanos and Neiman-Marcus

Size: Bust: 35" , Waist: 32" , Hips: 36", Shoulders: approx. 15", Sleeves: approx. 24" , CB Neck to Hem: 39", Hem Sweep: 38".

Condition: Excellent. This was beautifully taken in on the sides form the pockets down. From the quality of workmanship, I’d say it was done at Neiman-Marcus for the original owner.
