Natty 1940s Fred A. Block Wool Suit
This natty 1940s wool suit has the biggest shoulder pads! It certainly is the fashionable extreme. The jacket is made in striped grey wool, and the stripes are used to great advantage in the design lines. From the mitered collar corners, to the inset waist band which forms the top of the hip pockets as it reverses, and the chevron seam of the back peplum, the stripes are used beautifully. The convertible collar and front of the jacket are finished with bound buttonholes and wonderfully detailed large silver buttons. The coordinating skirt has set in curved smile welt pockets with arrow head corners, a high rise notched waistline, and a side metal zipper. I dont know too much about Fred A. Block, but the company was known for both studded crepe dresses and suits from the 1930s to the later 1950s. They are better known today for the costume jewelry they produced. Label: Fred A. Block Original Condition: Excellent. No holes. One 1/8 faint spot near skirt hem, 3 well done rewoven breaks to warp.
